Double Mobility Scooter Hire in Benidorm

A double mobility scooter is one machine with two seats beside each other, so two people can go out together on one scooter, legally.

This is the one question where the rules point straight at a product. Article 134.6 of Benidorm's ordinance forbids carrying a passenger, with one exception: a scooter that is built to carry an extra occupant. A double model is that exception.

Two people on a single seat scooter is the version that gets stopped. Two people on a machine designed for two is not.

Who hires a double

The pairing we hear about most is a couple where one walks fine and the other does not. Hiring two scooters solves the mobility and ruins the outing. One double solves both.

A double is wider than a single. That matters on a narrow pavement and in a hotel lift, and it is the first thing to check before you book one.

To be straight with you about where we stand today: the two machines we carry, the Donata and the Tunder, each seat one rider. Neither is a double.

Whether we offer a double alongside those two, and if so which model, how wide it is and what it costs by the week and by the month, follows here shortly.

What the rules say about two people

  • Both seats are seats. The machine is built for two, which is what article 134.6 requires.
  • One name still goes on the contract, and that person rides it. Article 134.5 does not change because there are two seats.
  • Our own rule still applies to the rider: 65 or over, or a mobility limitation.
  • The two machines we carry each seat one rider, so a double is not something we can promise you today.

Questions about double scooters

Can two people ride one mobility scooter in Benidorm?
Not on a single seat machine. Article 134.6 of the ordinance forbids carrying a passenger, unless the scooter is constructed to carry an extra occupant. A double model is built for exactly that, so two people on one is fine on the right machine.
Is a tandem scooter the same as a double?
People use both words for the same thing: one machine, two seats. What matters legally is whether the machine was built to carry a second person, not what it is called.
Does the passenger need to be 65 or have a mobility limitation too?
Our rule applies to the person hiring and riding. The ordinance's condition in article 135.b is written about the hirer as well.
Is it harder to ride than a single?
It is wider, so it takes more room to turn and more care on a narrow pavement. We go through that at handover, before you set off.
