Accessible Benidorm

Where Benidorm is easy to get around on wheels, where it is not, and which of those two we can actually prove.

This page is deliberately shorter than the ones you will find elsewhere. A guide to accessible beach entries and public toilets is only worth anything if somebody has been to each one, and we say plainly which entries here are drawn from the map and which are still waiting on a visit.

Being sent to a toilet that is locked, or to a beach ramp that ends in sand, is worse than being told nothing.

The shape of the town

Benidorm's basic shape helps. Two long beaches with a promenade behind each, a headland between them, and the flat ground behind Poniente where the parks are.

The two promenades are the easy part of town and they are long enough to be a day out on their own. The old town on the headland is the hard part, and the eastern end of Levante climbs.

Those are the shapes on the map. Everything below needs a person on the ground.

What we are still checking on the ground

Being sent to a locked toilet or to a ramp that ends in soft sand is worse than being told nothing, so each of these gets published once somebody has been there.

Four things decide whether a day out here works, and all four need somebody to go and look rather than read a tag on a map:

  • Beach access. Which beaches have a ramp or matting down to the water, where along the beach it is, and in which months the assisted bathing service runs.
  • Public toilets. Which ones you can get into without a step, and when they are open.
  • Kerbs and pavements. Where the dropped kerbs are, and which stretches are rough going, district by district.
  • The viewpoints and squares. Which of them you can reach without a step.

Each of the four follows here as soon as somebody has been round with a notebook.
