Rent a Mobility Scooter in Benidorm

Scooter hire in Benidorm by the week or the month, from € 80 a week, brought to where you are staying.

One machine, one named rider. Article 134.5 of the ordinance says a hired scooter may only be ridden by the person on the contract, so we put your name on it and hand it to you in person.

What these are, and what they are not

These are three-wheel electric scooters. You sit astride a saddle, steer with handlebars, and each machine has mirrors, indicators and brake lights. They are not self-propelled wheelchairs, which article 133 of Benidorm's ordinance defines as CE-marked class I medical devices for people who have lost the ability to walk, and they are not the four-wheel pavement machines some firms call a mobility scooter.

That distinction decides which rules apply to you and whether a plate, insurance or a licence is needed. It is not settled, and we will not guess at it. Our rules guide sets out what the ordinance says about self-propelled wheelchairs; it does not claim those articles cover these two machines.

Which category these two machines fall in under Benidorm's rules, and with it whether a plate, insurance, a helmet or a licence is needed and where they may be ridden, follows here shortly.

How hiring works

  1. Tell us the dates and the hotel

Send the form with your arrival and departure dates and where you are staying. Room number can follow later.

  2. We reply with a price and a window

In writing, before anything is agreed. If we cannot cover your dates we say so straight away.

  3. We deliver and show you the machine

Speed setting, brake, charger, and your copy of the contract, which article 134.9 says you carry while riding.

What comes with the hire

  • We hire only to people aged 65 or over, or with a mobility limitation. It is our rule and it is on every contract.
  • The rider on the contract is the only person who may ride it, which is article 134.5 rather than our preference.
  • Third party liability cover of at least 60,000 euro per scooter is the hire firm's obligation under article 135.d, not yours.
  • Delivery in Benidorm, collection and a charger are in the rate, not billed afterwards.
  • What our own cover adds on top of the legal minimum: To follow

Questions people ask before booking

Do I need a licence or a helmet?
For a self-propelled wheelchair the ordinance treats riding as pedestrian traffic, so no licence is involved. The Donata and the Tunder are a separate question: they are saddle scooters, not medical devices, and we have not settled which category they fall in. We will not guess at it, and we go through what applies when we hand the machine over.
Can I take it into my hotel?
That is between you and the hotel, and it varies. Ask at reception where they would like it stored and charged before you book. Most of the practical trouble people have is about charging, not parking.
Who may ride it?
Only the person named on the contract. Article 134.5 is explicit, and lending it on is forbidden in the contract itself under article 135.b.
How fast does it go?
A mobility scooter is ridden at walking pace on the pedestrian area, under article 134.2. That is a rule about how you ride, not about what the machine is capable of.
